Tyler is a systematic portfolio manager and quantitative analyst with over 15 years of experience building and managing quantitative equity strategies at scale. He holds a PhD in Geophysics with Scientific Computing from The University of Western Ontario.
His career began at TD Newcrest, where he helped automate retail order flow and develop highfrequency market-making systems. He subsequently spent six years at BlackRock within the Scientific Active Equities team, contributing to statistical arbitrage and flow-based signal research while managing approximately $8 billion CAD across Canadian Long Only, Alpha Advantage, and 32 Cap strategies.
At Man Numeric in Boston, Tyler served as lead Portfolio Manager for the $2 billion USD US Small Cap portfolio, contributed to the migration of production and research infrastructure from SAS to Python, helped implement machine learning techniques, and built the firm’s first Sharia-compliant portfolio. Most recently at Canada Pension Plan Investments, he served as a Managing Director in the Systematic Strategies Group, overseeing the rebuild of the Quant Equity program (approximately $10 billion CAD market neutral; $7 billion CAD enhanced beta) including production pipeline architecture, analytics library development, model design, and day-to-day operations and trading.
Tyler is currently focused on the next evolution of quantitative investing: developing expertise in agentic AI systems and their application to the investment process. He also delivers a lecture series, Modes of Perception: Tools for Insight, Change, and Innovation, which draws on ideas spanning media theory, visualization, philosophy, and complexity science to offer practitioners practical frameworks for navigating complex problems and communicating across disciplines.
